As the world emerges from global economic recession and faces up to the challenges of adapting to climate change, this symposium will address today's hot issues, emerging problems and innovative thinking on future solutions to help cities shape themselves for the future.

Focussing on city and town centres – leading thinkers and exponents of change in the built environment will cover five key themes:

• places
• buildings and design
• regeneration and living
• innovation in investment and sustainability
• transport

Mayor Greg Nickels from Seattle, FAST City 2009 winner, will describe how they have embraced each theme and then on Tuesday evening the city at night, complete with a demonstration of lighting projects,
will form the basis of an evening presentation by
Mike Simpson – Philips Lighting.
